Previous strong encouragement from Twitter is now an absolute order.
Coronavirus is not going anywhere soon and big companies are beginning to act. Social media giant Twitter has instructed all of its employees to work from home until further notice in order to contain the spread of COVID-19.
Last week, Twitter strongly encouraged its employees to work remotely. However, the company is now making the directive absolutely mandatory across the globe.
It will still pay contractors, hourly workers, and vendors for their standard working hours even if problems arise while performing duties from home. Twitter will also be providing compensation for home work setup expenses and parents who might need to pay additional money for daycare.
This move from the San Francisco-based giant is not unprecedented. Tech companies like Apple, Amazon, Google, and Microsoft have so far issued similar instructions to employees in different regions. But Twitter’s order to its almost 5000-strong global workforce is one of the strongest yet as the coronavirus pandemic continues.
